The detail in these costumes were amazing. Everything was there, even if you couldn't see it. If you see them, you'll agree.

Best Individual
Miko as Minato Arisato and Orpheus from Persona 3
Photo
Everything she wore was clean and professional in appearance. The Orpheus was to scale and even lit up! Lots of engineering put into this baby.

Best Group
Andrea and Amanda as Almaz and Mao from Disgaea 3
Photo
Again, very clean and professionally finished. Teamwork was also present, which is key for any group entry. Looked uniform together, neither seemed out of place in the duo.

Best Kid
Ryan as Link from Twilight Princess

He was so proud of himself. He made the shield himself, painted the sword, picked out all the fabrics, etc. When the kid is involved in the costume more than just a model, it stands out!

Best Technical
Clutch as Yoshimitsu from Tekken Tag

The entire thing was body cast and vacuum sealed. All armor is fiberglass. Also has reflective tape on the sword to make it glow in the flash of the camera.

Best Prop
Val as Shanoa from Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia

**We did not chose this award. This award was chosen by the group that donated the prize, a replica of a sword from WoW.** Her sword was trimmed in El Wire and the orb was actually a hamster ball so it could double as a purse.

Kala as Lolita Naruto from Naruto

Very clean, even considering being her first solo project. Although I'm not a fan of original versions of characters, we all agreed that this was very cleverly done and executed well.

Best New Comer
Summer as Shao from Mamotte Shuogogetten
Photo
Everything was clean, finished, and well executed. We were almost fooled that it was her first contest and first solo project.

Tay as Edea from Final Fantasy VIII

The helmet was completely hand crafted, she had puff paint on her face, and the engineering for the back piece was very well done.

Katie as Utada Hikaru

The train was filled with beach balls and she actually used a curtain lining for the bottom so it could easily be cleaned. The train also is removable.

Stitches as Angewoman from Digimon

She did a really good job at the bodysuit, and there was two pounds of feathers on this thing, each put on separately. Everything was also sculpted by hand. Extra tidbit: she's allergic to feathers.

Brian as Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes

He made the beam sword from the ground up, and we were all quite impressed. The costume was made by Laina, who was present for prejudging and talked us through the process. Completely hand drafted jacket and the pants were cut up and resewn to have the seams in the correct location.

Stacy's: Spookloops as Oracle from Final Fantasy Tastics

All the detail on the outside of the jacket was hand painted, the inside was hand painted and embroidered. The hat was made from scratch and everything was nice and clean.

Mine: Britt as Lion Sora (in the style of Julie Taymor's designs for The Lion King on Broadway) from Kingdom Hearts 2

She made the head from scratch, as well as the Circle of Life keyblade. If the detail was present for the broadway version (ie, the triangle on the chest is the mane, and since Simba as a cub doesn't have one, it isn't fully filled in), it was present in the costume.

Kaze's: Shane as Talim from Soul Calibur IV

All the details were present and were well done. He didn't care that he was dressed as a girl, just that he was dressed as his favorite costume.

Dottie's: David as Action Bastard from Shin Chan

Besides loving saying his name, it was nice seeing a rare character. The mask was once a Batman mask, and the belt buckle was off-center to be like the crazy Shin Chan art.

Jamie (lolita_minako) is going to let me make a costume for her new doll, a Souldoll Soulkid Miryu, for a doll meet at Megacon. That is, if she gets her in time. The doll will be wearing Miyuki's default wig and is coming with amber eyes. Because I am doll-less, Jamie is letting me enter her in the costume contest at the doll meet.

Well, I want to make her a Chii costume. A NICE one. I want to win this doll contest because the main prize is $100 that I can put toward MY doll (my first being Dana boy-type, with the girl type as my second eventually). And because it would be my creation/entry, Jamie is letting me keep every penny if I won, even though it's her doll.

METROCON Costume Contest 2006

FINALLY getting around to posting the obligatory "why we chose them" post because there are FINALLY Costume Contest photos online. This is a Public entry, feel free to post where you feel fit.

**Note: for Janet and Nikki's awards and the host award, I am only saying what I remember from the awards discussion**
Nikki's Judge's Award: "InuTaisho" from Inu Yasha

~This costume was very well crafted and the details were there as well, including his hand-made armor. One of the entries that really stood out to us.

Janet's Judge's Award: "Shiva" from Final Fantasy X

~I remember Janet was VERY impressed with these. She loved the details and colors, and she was impressed by the construction (she was the one the made sure to check EVERY CONTESTANT'S seams in case Nikki or I didn't get to).

Julie's Judge's Award: "Nanaki" from Final Fantasy VII

~I was floored by the construction of this costume. Everything was thought out-she had walking paws (in this picture) and glove paws. She made sure the claws were on the correct toes for a canine, the number of the toes were correct, etc. Plus the mouth was rigged to move with hers. It was fun judging her because of that little detail (I liked making her talk).

Host Award: "Yuna" from Final Fantasy X

~Lauren said this was one of the costumes that stood out to her. The flowers on the skirt weren't painted like every other Yuna cosplayer, but beaded by hand with seed beads. The detail work was stunning.

Best of Themes:
Kawaii/Cute

~**The one on the right** The craftmanship was quite clean (she used baroque satin for some of the pieces, and most cosplayers know how annoying that is) and the design was adorable. Which is an important aspect to the "cute" award. It hurt us to not give the Scary award to her partner because we loved her costume as well.

Kowai/Scary

~When we first started judging this one, she was wearing a beautiful mask. We went over the costume and was impressed by the craftmanship and originality of the design. Then she took the mask off and showed us the makeup she did. It really gave the costume that little extra something, finishing off the Kawai look.

Best Character Likeness: "Gaara" and "Haku" from Naruto

~The qualifications for this award is to look like the characters. These two frightened me with the resemblance (I am the only "Narutard" of the judges), on top of the cleanliness of the costumes.

Most Creative: "Bahamut" from Final Fantasy

~We really liked the direction she took with this design. It's a completely different approach to what we would think of this dragon. The wings were also rigged to open and close.

Best Attention to Detail: "Dinah" from Bizenghast

~Push aside the fact that the costume was really well constructed, all the details were present that needed to be. Plus it was 100% hand beaded, bead by bead. We felt as if a detail wasn't missed at all.

Best Large Group: The cast of Final Fantasy VI

~All were Amano-based and beautifully designed. No one costume stood out among the rest-the actually looked like a group entry.

Best Small Group: "Atasuki" from Naruto

~Again, all the members looked like one entry. They were all beautifully crafted and clean.

Best Technical: "Ifrit and his Summoner" from Final Fantasy

~The Summoner was very clean and well made. Ifrit was VERY impressive. He was rigged on stilts and everything was smooth and well done.

Best Junior: "Naruto" from Naruto

~I am a big Naruto fan, and when I saw this I was very happy. Everything was there that needed to be. And it wasn't "day-glow" orange. Bonus points there.

Best Individual: "Queen Serenity" from Sailormoon

~This was the quickest agreement among the three of us. The costume was beautifully crafted, the wig was gorgeous with an amazing part, the bodice was hand beaded, etc. We all whispered something to each other when she left: "She makes our fandom happy."

Best in Show: "The Black Watzes" from Final Fantasy IX

~All three costumes were clean with reinforced seams, hand crafted wings, the hats were from scratch... They were very creative representations of the evil Black Mages, but still accurate to the core. Congrats, guys, you were amazing.

I want to send a big "thank you" to all the contestants. I know there were a few little issues with the contest, but they will be worked out next time. Congrats again to all the winners, and I hope to see all of you again at "Amano's World" and METROCON 2007.

OMGWTFBBQ A PUBLIC ENTRY?!

Yeah, it's public. Why is it public, you ask? Because I want this heard.

About recent events:

I wash my hands of this.

I am not going to let my dislike/distrust of a person destroy my "friendships." Why do I dislike said person? Because when I try to be open, bubblly, perky, friendly, caring, etc. to someone and I just get pushed away I loose interest. They begin make me feel uncomfortable, and I don't tolerate that. That is why I am so shy at first-people in general make me uncomfortable. Then I see that things are okay, and I break into my normal bubbly and perkiness. But when I am pushed away and made to feel like I either don't belong or am a third wheel, I get irked.

Especially when said person never treated me like everyone else or even talked to me on my own and THEN goes to say that I am the person they thought would stand up for them and so I let them down. Umm... yeah... NO. What's funny is, I DID stand up for some of their views/reasoning! BET NO ONE READ THAT PART!

I don't take any side besides mine. These are MY views and MY standpoints and MY concerns. Period. AND I HATE IT WHEN PEOPLE TELL ME OTHERWISE.

I quote my user info: "As a warning, I am a person that will follow what her heart says. And I will not hesitate to stand up for my friends. Things like this cause me to do things people find crazy. Don't say I didn't warn you..."

And I am tired of being called a "two faced, backstabbing, liar" when a situation like this arises.

So screw all this BS. I. Am. Through. None of this is worth it.

And don't comment to argue me and my views. I am not in the mood to deal with it.

PS: If ANYTHING I write in ANYONE'S Livejournal goes anywhere BESIDES Livejournal without my permission, I will have to get ugly.

Okay. Sleep in my room isn't exactly the easiest of tasks in this world because of the noise and the light from my roommate (=¬.¬=), so I have yet to really have a refreshing night's sleep in my room all year. So I am tired 95% of the time. So I nap. A lot. Doesn't help. I end up yawning a lot all day. Now one of my teachers (Music Theory) rated today about it, "If I see anyone yawn in this class again they are out!!! I mean it! It is so rude! If I can get here refreshed, you can, too!" and so on and so forth. Of course he glanced at me every other minute. I was like, WTF?!? Not all of us have wonderful matresses or a quiet place to sleep at night. Yeah... I was pissed most of the day. Then my advisor was late... so I was late to Poetry. =>.<= Yeah... again, not happy. I go to lunch stressed and pissed and shove my face full of plain pasta with butter and parm. cheese. And a glass of milk and a glass of Pepsi. Then my day lightens up when I get to WORK of all places... There was a basket of Starbursts at the front desk-Where I sit. *squeeee!* I <33333 Starburst! *dances* Favorite candy (besides gummi bears and Jelly Bellies)! I alread ate 3 packs (they are the two packs-I am not a pig, dangit).

I want to go to Wal-Mart. I want to look in the patterns and stuff... and buy Van Helsing. I want to be able to see the special features. And Dracula. Dracula is nice... yummy... =^.^=v If anyone could possibly make me an icon with Dracula with or without the Brides, I will love you forever. I am going to make one with the Brides tonight that says, "Three Lucky Ladies."

Ten more minutes til FREEDOM!!!! Yay!

But I am still pissed about the stupid yawning thing. I CAN'T HELP IT!!!!

But I pre-registered for my classes. If things work out, this will be my schedule next spring:
Monday/Wednesday:
*9-9:50am: Short Story
*10-10:50am: Theory II
*12-12:50pm: 18th Century Literature
*4-4:50pm: University Choir
*7:30-9:30pm: Choral Union (Monday) or Siren Voices (Wednesday)

Tuesday/Thursday:
*8-9:15am: American Musical Theater
*9:30-10:45am: Beginning French II
*2-2:50pm: University Choir

Friday:
*9-9:50am: Short Story
*10-10:50am: Theory II
*12-12:50pm: 18th Century Literature

Total Credits: 19. If you think about it like we are suppose to, we are getting jipped in credits in the vocal ensembles. Classes are suppose to be a credit an hour (or 50 minutes). So I should get 2 credits for Union and Siren's and 4 for University. McGahan is cheap, man!!! Not fair! We work our butts off in there and we get jipped in the end. *shaks fist at McGahan*

Just got back from watching Van Helsing with Jon and Eric... OMG.... GREAT movie. I <333 it. And Dracula was soooo sexy... *was melting the whole time.* Now my wanting to cosplay Verona has shot through the roof! And I can use the same wig I want for Skuld! YEA!!! I will aim to debut it MetroCon or AFO6 because getting it done for AB is next to nil. Anyone up to cosplaying with me for some Van Helsing photos? =^.^=v

I would keep raving about the movie, but I don't want to ruin it for the poor, deprived people who hasn't seen it yet.

I had one of those "WTF" dreams. I dreamt that I was Verona (head wife of Dracula in Van Hellsing) and I was following a little boy that I became attached to. He turned out to have many catlike qualities. Then I hung out with Aleera and Marishka, looking for dinner.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS MOVIE!!!! I woke up like, "The point of this was..." and "this happened why...?"

And now I am getting emails from the people who didn't qualify in the Pumplin Carving Contest wondering why they aren't there. I replied to both of them explaining what they had to do to qualify. They didn't do it. One of them didn't put their name on the entry, so I didn't know who it was from. They emailed me back this morning. I clearly told them that the deadline was the 27th. =>.<= The other person emailed me today asking why they weren't in it. When they emailed their entry, I relaized that they weren't only not on the roll call, but not in the community as well. So I emailed her back saying "I can't put you on the roll call until you officially join the community." I checked daily for whether or not she joined. She never did. The deadline came and went, and she never did. So I couldn't count the entry. Now she is wondering why she isn't there, sayiing that "this is the second year in a row her pumpkin wasn't counted." Not my fault! I emailed her all the information and all the rules and stuff are on the info page of the community, and I was nice enough to repeat them in emails for people. Another person gave me their pumpkin yesterday. I had to email them saying they were too late.

"If they were linked from the lab, they wouldn't have known the rules" you say? Here is the best part:

Okay, now I am at work where there is no copy paper and I am the only work study student. Fabulous.

Working on schedule possibilities. Looking at about 19 credits next semester.

French class was cancelled today, so that meant no test. Of course, we didn't know it was canceled until the teacher arrived. Turns out his wife is in a hospital in Boston. We are all bummed-this is one of the coolest teachers on campus. 70-something with the charisma of a 20-something year old and can be found in the local gym! Anyway, we are all happy that there was no class, but we really wish it was for other circumstances.

And I am getting oodles of comments on my "Anti-Yankees" hat. It is the Yankee symbol with a red circle/slash in it, like the "No Smoking" signs. And it was in the bookstore! I wanted one of the "ALCS Champions" tees, but they only came in Large, X-Large, and XX-Large. Ummm... no. But they should have "World Series Champs" tees in by the end of the week. And the funny part about this win: They get thier rings at the first home game of the season (April 11-ish). Guess who is the visiting team:

I am so exhausted I can't show how excited I am because THE SOX WON THE WORLD SERIES because of the stupid people rioting until 2 am. Our star pitcher, Curt Schilling, even made a speech saying that it is "pointless and stupid to riot because of a win. What is burning a car celebrating? It isn't worth it (paraphrased)." Yet there was still the whole banging on all the doors, screaming, horns beeping, glass breaking, etc. And a few fireworks, which I can handle. That is no big deal. Plus the sirens from the cops. WTF?!?! Grrr... I will deck out today in BoSox gear-including wearing red socks. But I will wear my anti-Yankees hat. I think that is appropriate.
